Here's a chart I found that tells you how much of each piece of gear you need.

Wow, these numbers are dizzying. It really makes you think twice about buying any of this gear -- that way surely lies financial ruin!

I actually was thinking the opposite, Thann. The cost of a refresh just to strictly farm gear, taking into consideration the abysmal drop rates for some gear, seems like it would be worse than just buying the gear straight up. I have no data to back it up or anything but that was my own intuition.

Ah yes, agreed -- if you compare the cost of buying the gear in the shop vs. farming it in LS/DS battles, then it's most likely cheaper to buy it outright. Personally I almost never farm purple gear for that very reason. Drop rates are a joke. If I happen to get one while farming shards, then great. But regardless of how you pay to acquire it (farming or shipments) my point was that you just need *so much* of everything that it's a losing battle. You can't really tell objectively just by playing the game because you're only looking a one toon's gear needs, or one piece of gear's "Needed By" screen; but looking at how many pieces are needed for everyone is quite an eye-opener. No matter how much money or patience you invest you'll never see the end -- hell, you'll never see the middle even Hey, it won't stop me from trying to get a frakking Mk 5 Arakyd Droid Caller, but it does put things in sobering perspective -- TS
