Hello there! As a nice habit in this lovely guild I’m writing a guide for a P1 Heroic Raid.
In our Heroic attempt I got to score 3.6M damage and I know that this number could have been higher with a few better decisions and more luck (and more gear and God Mods of course). I’m going to clarify the level abilities gear and mods I had when I did this run (I got Scav Rey to G11 between this run and this moment).
The Team
swgoh.gg/u/ruysid/squads/56305/
JTR, BB-8, R2-D2, Resistance Trooper, Scavenger Rey
- Jedi Training Rey
My JTR is 100% maxed out. G12 with gear in 3 slots and the 3 zetas.
Zetas
Not all three zetas are required to get good scores. The Zeta’s priority is:
1) Inspirational Presence (Lead)
This one is totally needed to run this team. This will reduce cooldowns allowing the team to spam special abilities AND control the enemies’ turn meter getting more moves.
2) Insight
Not 100% needed, but she can get nice buffs increasing her damage output and more important, she will recover health and protection when she evades, which highly matters because when she uses Unbreakable Will before DN’s Annihilate, she will recover her health and protection thanks to this and her health steal, which is 20% at full gear.
3) Virtuous Protector
Not needed if R2’s Combat Analysis is maxed (zeta)
Mods
One set of Critical Damage (CD) is required. The other recommended set would be a Critical Chance (CC), but with her lead and R2’s Combat Analysis she can get a lot of critical chance (which is totally needed in order to land the exposes) without a set. I use a health set because speed secondaries, this set is also recommended.
Some people run a Speed set, but I think that 216% CD is way better than speed because she will go very often thanks to BB-8 and her Mind Trick.
Primaries: speed on arrow and critical damage on triangle are mandatory. Circle can be health or protection. I recommend offense on cross (she won’t die because of low health, protection or defense because she has tons of that)
Secondaries: focus on speed, offense and health.
- BB-8
My BB-8 is almost maxed out. G12 with 2/3 slots (one Multi-Tool is missing) and Self-Preservation Protocol is not zetad. I will get this Multi-Tool asap because I noticed that without it he hasn’t any health steal and (again) Self-Preservation Protocol is not zetad.
Zetas
1) Roll with the Punches
This ability is next to JTR’s lead in order of importance. It boosts the damage of the team a lot.
2) Self-Preservation Protocol
I’d zetad this ability right now if the list of “to-do” wasn’t that long. It solves the problem of BB-8 dying because of an unfortunate Drain Force.
Mods
Speed, speed and speed. I have health and protection on him because I run him in arena, but protection doesn’t have a purpose here and offense could be a better choice given that he goes a lot thanks to his counters. He should be the fastest toon in the team to spam Secret Intel.
- R2-D2
As JTR, he is maxed out.
Zetas
1) Combat Analysis
Needed to clean that damned defense down.
2) Number Crunch
Good to boost your allies’ stats.
Mods
1 Speed set + something. I use potency because of his stun in arena, but CC, health or any mod with good secondaries is good.
- Resistance Trooper
The guy with the helmet is G12 with 1/3 slots.
Zetas
None 😊
Mods
CD + CC sets. No other option is as viable as this one. I tried an offense set but his damage output went down.
Offense is the more important word when you build this dude. Critical damage primary in the triangle, but offense in arrow and cross. You should choose the mods with the higher offense secondaries too. That’s right: NO SPEED, he doesn’t need speed to rock. Mine has +8 speed from mods but the 3153 physical damage do the magic. Thanks to his unique he gets 55% turn meter whenever an enemy becomes exposed, which happens all the time under JTR.
- Scavenger Rey
Everybody knows how to build her. I’m currently gearing her up, but in the Heroic run she was G10.
CD + CC with speed and offense secondaries
How-to
In order to get a high score versus Darth Nihilus in this Phase 1, you’ll need to time your foresight and exposes right.
Foresight
In this team, JTR can give foresight for 2 turns to a resistance ally when she calls him/her with Defiant Slash and can gain foresight thanks to her own ability Insight.
BB-8 can gain foresight when he takes damage, R2-D2 gives foresight to the target ally when he uses Smoke Screen and Scavenger Rey can gain foresight when she uses her basic or Leverage.
Knowing this, it’s possible to reduce the damage that Nihilus inflicts, especially when he uses Drain Force. For example, you should not use Defiant Slash to ALWAYS call BB-8, when an ally has low health, you should call this ally giving him/her foresight to avoid the next attack of the enemy.
You should not always use Smoke Screen on JTR (the tank) or BB-8 (in order to force a counter attack), but on your ally with low health, the same way as with Defiant Slash.
Exposes
Exposes are your main source of damage of course, but they are also what makes Resistance Trooper your biggest damage dealer. His ability to gain 55% turn meter when someone lands an expose is what makes him great. You should ALWAYS use his special ability targeting Nihilus to pop and renew exposes. The mechanics of the game allow him to pop an expose dealing the damage, apply a new expose and gain 55% turn meter.
The rest of the team should always use their special abilities against Nihilus and only use their basics against the minions. A good run has BB-8 spamming Secret Intel and using Illuminated Destiny whenever is up, R2-D2 rotating between Smoke Screen and Improvise, Scavenger Rey rotating between Leverage and Flurry of Blows, RT spamming his special and JTR using Mind Trick against Nihilus when his TM is >30% or when he has any buffs and choosing her ally to call with Defiant Slash following the instructions already written. The minions will die even if you ignore them and they will grant you:
Unbreakable Will
The special ability of this Phase allows any toon with this buff to survive massive damage (cof cof Annihilate) and being invincible with 1 health until the he/she/it takes a turn again. When the buff expires you should always start to try to recover health.
The best toons to activate this buff (if you can choose) are JTR (see Insight), Scavenger Rey (she will recover her health with her specials), and BB-8 or R2-D2 (see Self-Preservation Protocol, without it…they suck doing this, specially R2).
That being said, the most important thing to survive is to time the foresight waiting for Drain Force and to time Unbreakable Will waiting for Annihilate. It’s possible (I swear) to survive with the 5 toons with at least 50% health and 100% protection until enrage.
Must-Watch TV -- Seriously
Skelturix on YouTube has an amazing video on how to maximize your squad's damage. It's easily the best SWGoH instructional video ever made so do check it out! (The mods described are definitely less accessible than what's described here but even without the mods the information is invaluable.)
Thanks and good luck!
