This post is going to try to simplify and explain some of the information coming out about territory battles. As such, it will be modified as time goes on to reflect the latest information we've received. The information contained here is thus subject to revision as I'm proven wrong about things repeatedly more information comes out.
Let's start at the beginning.
Overview:
How Do We Get Stars?
Mission Types:
How Do I Know Where to Deploy?
So What Does This All Mean?
Let's start at the beginning.
Overview:
- Territory Battles takes place over 6 phases. Each phase is currently designated to last 12 hours, and to be tied to 6 am Guild Leader's time (Pacific time -- unclear if it's PST/PDT or will change). There has been massive blowback on the forums regarding this timing issues, so the devs indicated they would talk it over.
- Each Phase has 1 or more territories (P1 has 1, P2 has 2, P3-6 have 3). Each of these territories has missions contained therein, and each territory has a possible 3 stars up for grabs (so 45 total stars for the 6 phases).
- Stars are earned through the accumulation of territory points. As a guild, we need to get at least one star in a territory to unlock the next territory in its path.
- Wait.....what do I mean by path? Let's go to a picture:
- See the arrows going from the highlighted portion (P2) to the middle grey areas? That's the path. So as you can see, P2 is divided into 2 territories. The northern territory can unlock the northern and central territories in P3. The southern territory can unlock the southern and central territories in P3. So if we got 1 star in the northern and none in the southern, in P3 we would be able to do the northern and central territories in P3, but NOT the southern in P3. We would, however, have the option to do the southern territory in P2 again.
How Do We Get Stars?
- Stars appear to be a function of territory points.
- As you can see from the top of the image, for whatever phase this is, 5.73 million territory points are needed to get a star. It appears that there are two ways get these points.
- Way #1: Troop deployment. At the beginning of each phase, you deploy your roster across available territories (see below for more information on that). The power of each character gives territory points.
- Way #2: Missions! Missions are the things we will be doing inside the territories. Missions can have various rewards, but some of those rewards are territory points.
- Why do we care about stars? Well Star #1 is easy -- we want to unlock additional territories. Why do we care about additional stars? The more stars we accumulate, the better the overall rewards will be.
Mission Types:
- There are three types of missions identified so far: Combat Missions, Platoon Missions, and Special Missions
- Combat Missions involve (wait for it....) fighting. Each combat mission involves fighting six waves of enemies. Territory points are earned throughout, so if you don't complete all six waves, you still earn points. These missions have certain character requirements. Most often, those requirements are LS or Rebel, but some may require a specific character.
- Platoon Missions appear to simply be a character assignment mission:
- Essentially a platoon is supposed to be comprised of 15 SPECIFIC characters. Each member can assign one or more characters to a platoon, but there appears to be a per person cap of 10 characters (see the upper righthand corner of the image). As platoons are filled we gain territory points, and come closer to unlocking a bonus that helps later on in the territory battles.
- In addition to the characters being specific, there will be a minimum star level (that increases each phase)
- The third type of mission is Special Missions. Special Missions have strict character requirements, and do not award territory points. Instead, they have special rewards. The example given is that there is one special mission that gives Rebel Officer Leia shards -- for every guild member that completes that mission, everyone in the guild gets a shard.
How Do I Know Where to Deploy?
- This is probably the biggest issue we face. Think of TB as a guild-wide game of Risk, but more complicated. Knowing where (and how much) to deploy is equal parts record-keeping, experience and guessing. Luckily, we're slowly getting the hang of it
- The first thing to keep in mind is that units refresh between Phases. So anyone you use in P1 becomes available again when P2 hits.
- The second thing to keep in mind is that you are able to either A) assign a toon to a platoon OR B) use that unit on a single mission in each phase.
- Phase 1 is pretty easy. Deploy every single unit you can to the only territory that exists in P1.
- Phases 2 through 6 become trickier. The officers keep a careful record of every phase of every TB fought since the beginning, and we have a spreadsheet with formulae to help us determine where to do final deployments at which point in the day (based on where we are points-wise, how many players are left to do combat missions, and a number of other variables). We update the numbers periodically throughout the day, do a gut-check, and issue guidance on the TB Announcements channel on where final deployments should happen.
So What Does This All Mean?
- Damned if I know.
- Umm, I mean....
- Increasing Galactic Power is good. Working on Rebels is good -- seemingly for everything in this game, but especially Territory Battles. Even though Empire won the battle of Hoth. Ahhh, revisionist history.....
- There should be more information coming out over the coming weeks, presumably before TB lands. I'll update this as information comes out. Stay tuned!
